INTRODUCTION OF MOBILE DEVICES, CLEANERS - ABM (LUL/27/2)

Further to my previous Circular (IR/339/20, 27th August 2020), the Lead Officer has had discussions with ABM over its introduction of mobile devices and I am pleased to advise that following these talks, a number of important assurances and protections have been secured for members, including:-

Rmt calls for end to outsourcing as ABM doubled profits in last financial year

Underground outsourcing company doubles its profits while cutting safety-critical cleaners jobs in midst of COVID crisis.

TUBE UNION RMT today called on the Mayor of London to take back control of the Underground cleaning and put an end to the outdated dogma of outsourcing, after it emerged that the outsourcing company ABM has doubled its profits in the last financial year while cutting the number of cleaners working to keep Londoners safe on the tube.

ABM cleaners: your work is highly valued and the RMT has your back

To all ABM Cleaner Members

Dear Colleagues

I am sure that I don’t need to point out the difficulties we are all facing at this extraordinary time. But like many key workers, the efforts you are making are highly valued by the whole community of London.

At the same time your Union RMT and its ABM representatives are going flat out to continue looking after you interests. Should you need to contact one of them, their names and numbers now follow:

RMT to ballot all ABM cleaner members for Strike Action

Subject: RATES OF PAY AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE, CLEANERS – ABM (LU CONTRACT)

That we note the report from our Lead Officer following the meeting with our ABM union representatives; and that no movement on any of our matters raised have been addressed by the company. We therefore instruct the General Secretary to advise the company that we are in dispute over their failure to provide free staff travel, a company wide sick pay scheme
or decent company pension.

RMT plan ABM recruitment video

Subject: RMT Nationally Resourced Cleaners Recruitment Drive ABM on LUL

That we note the London Transport Regional Council has agreed to fund the production of a recruitment video for our ABM cleaning grades on the underground on the basis that the union nationally make a substantial contribution.

ABM threaten RMT over job massacre article

Subject: STAFFING LEVELS – ABM (LONDON UNDERGROUND CONTRACT)

Threats from ABM Regarding Alleged “Defamation”!

That we note a letter has been received from the Company, that while not directly refuting our position that ABM are seeking to reduce the workforce by almost a third, makes the direct threat “to take further action” against the union if we address this issue in a publication ever again!

Another RMT victory for ABM cleaner members

Dear member,

This afternoon we met with the Deputy Mayor of London.

The Deputy Mayor has advised me that the removal of contractual sick pay for the ex Vinci TUPED into ABM cleaners ( who had been in receipt of it before the TUPE) has been reversed. This clear injustice has been rectified by the determined effort and activities of the RMT.

We now of course will redouble our efforts and continue the fight for all ABM cleaners to recieve proper Sick pay / Travel benefits / better pensions and pay as well as justice at work.
