Resolution to RMT AGM: defending ourselves from the economic crisis

This year, I will be attending RMT's AGM as a delegate, nominated by my branch, Stratford no.1.

Yesterday, the branch discussed resolutions to the AGM, and amongst others, passed this one. I wrote it following reflection on the recent oil refinery walkouts, but it is as much about the lessons we can all learn from those strikes as about the strikes themselves.

DEFENDING OURSELVES FROM THE ECONOMIC CRISIS

Bus Workers' Committee

We are seeking nominations for RMT's new Bus Worker grades committee - Secretary, Chair, Vice Secretary and Vice Chair - to serve only until bus workers can elect these officers at a mass meeting.

Nominations should be received from the branches concerned by November's Regional Council date of 27th November.

Representation in service control grades

This resolution, submitted by Stratford no.1 branch, was passed at the October 2008 meeting of the Regional Council

=====

Due to recent changes and anomalies in the representation of controllers/service managers within Service Control, this branch requests that the regional council adopts the following rule changes as a workable temporary arrangement until the time that the executive can produce a new set of rules.

As local representatives do not exist in the Controller/Service Manager grades within Service Control.

Timescale for Pay Campaign

The Regional Council meeting on Thursday 29 May 2008 unanimously adopted the following resolution from Stratford no.1 branch ...

=====

This Regional Council believes that our campaign for next year's LUL pay claim starts now. We believe that the first stage is to conduct a democratic debate as to what our claim should be. We therefore resolve that:

  • RMT LUL branches should discuss what they think the claim should be at their meetings in June and/or July and forward proposals to the Regional Council.
