Cleaners' demo: Clean Up Outsourcing

Demonstrate on 26 February: clean up outsourcing!

RMT London Transport Regional Council is uniting with three other unions organising outsourced workers for a day of direct action against outsourcing.

Along with the Independent Workers’ union of Great Britain (IWGB), the United Voices of the World (UVW), and the Public and Commercial Services union (PCS) branch at the Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), RMT members will demonstrate on Tuesday 26 February to demand rights for outsourced workers, including direct employment.

Assemble at 08:00 on 26 February at University of London, Malet St, London WC1E 7HU (nearest Tube: Russell Square).

The demonstration coincides with strikes by three groups of outsourced workers — IWGB members at the University of London, UVW members at the Ministry of Justice, and PCS members at BEIS — as well as a historic case in the Royal Courts of Justice, brought by IWGB, which challenges the law around outsourcing. If successful, the case could result in outsourced workers gaining the right to bargain directly with the contract holder, rather than the outsourced contractor.

RMT London Transport Regional Council, which organises outsourced workers in cleaning, engineering, and maintenance services across London Underground and other TfL employers, agreed to cosponsor the demonstration after two RMT branches, Bakerloo and Finsbury Park, passed motions supporting it.
