RMT Black & Ethnic Minority members' Conference 2020

RMT’s 26th annual Black & Ethnic Minority Members’ Conference will be taking place in the city of Liverpool, the oldest black community in Europe, with some black families in the city able to trace their roots back up to ten generations.

Invited guest speakers to conference include: Kim Johnson, Liverpool's first Black MP. Prior to becoming an MP, Johnson was a Unison shop steward. Writing on the Wall co-director Madeline Heneghan, whose book Great War to Race Riots discussed the social and cultural impact the 1919 Race Riots had upon those living in Liverpool following 1919 through to today. Professor Simon Dyson of De Montfort University, who led a team to carry out pioneering research into Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). Liverpool’s first Black Lord Mayor Anna Rothery, who succeeded a race row councillor to become Lord Mayor.

Our social will take place at THE CASA on Hope Street. The bar, also serves as a community resource centre and union branch venue.

Music will be provided by internationally renowned DJ, Ms L. Vibes. Authentic Caribbean cuisine will be catered by RAGGA’S the top Caribbean food outlet in the Northwest.
