Windrush 75th Anniversary Events

On 22nd June it will be the 75th Anniversary of when HMT Empire Windrush arrived in Britain. There will be many events to commemorate this anniversary around the country, and I write to highlight and encourage attendance at two in London:

SUMMARY:

The pay gap reports show that the persistence (and in some aspects, worsening) of pay disadvantage experienced by women, black, ethnic minority and disabled workers arises from two main areas:

RMT NATIONAL BLACK & ETHNIC MINORITY MEMBERS’ CONFERENCE 2022

I am pleased to inform you that, Covid restrictions permitting, the 2022 National Black and Ethnic Minority Members’ Conference will take place in the Hilton Liverpool City Centre, 3 Thomas Steers Way, Liverpool L1 8LW on Saturday 26th March (starting at 2pm) to Sunday 27th March 2022 (concluding at 4pm). 

Branches and Regional Councils are entitled to nominate up to a maximum of four delegates each. Nominations must be made on the attached form, which should be returned to Head Office by 31 January 2022. 

Un anti-racism day demonstrations

UN ANTI-RACISM DAY DEMONSTRATIONS - 19 & 20 MARCH 2022

To commemorate the UN Anti-Racism Day there will be international protests taking place in cities around the world under the slogan 'World Against Racism & Fascism'. We need to play our part mobilising the anti-racist majority in big numbers to challenge Johnson's racist offensive and the union is supporting the joint events organised by the TUC and Stand Up to Racism over the weekend of 19-20 March 2022:

RMT’s National Black & Ethnic Minority Members’ Advisory Committee

London Transport Region recently filled all its vacancies on the National Black & Ethnic Minority Members’ Advisory Committee. This followed an election after seven candidates were nominated by their respective branches for the six positions.

CONFERENCE ON “INJUSTICE” - 5th AUGUST 2021, 6PM

Following a resolution from the Black and Ethnic Minority Members' Conference, the union has organised an on-line conference on the theme of “Injustice” pulling together a number of black activist groups who tackle elements of racial injustice happening across society.
