TUBE UNION RMT today demanded that London Underground halt and reverse maintenance cuts and key asset sales after if emerged that reductions in vegetation management and the flogging off of a key piece of kit were major factors in the “wheel flats” fleet crisis that has dogged services on the Piccadilly Line for a number of years. RMT is warning that the next round of cuts being lined up to the TFL budget could unleash similar travel chaos but on an even wider scale.

RMT Tube cleaners demonstrated outside City Hall this to protest against poor pay and conditions as a result of outsourcing.

As you may or may not be aware, your station has been picked to take part in a trial which LU hopes will involve staff voluntarily wearing a red “tabard” with “Here To Help” written on the back. This trial was born out of a London Travel Watch survey which states the following. Throughout our research, it has become clear that most passengers feel that the most critical part of their journey experience relating to staff is their visibility and availability, as opposed to their location.

Post-agreement Joint Initiatives Drivers’ Dispute

The RMT met with LUL at ACAS today, October 12th, to continue talks about the post-agreement joint initiatives; Aslef reps also present. This meeting concentrated on pro-rata working, and in particular an interim proposal for 4 day a week pro-rata working. 

The RMT entered into a dispute with London Underground in August as tube bosses had failed to deliver on agreements they made as a part of our 2015 pay deal.

Your union wanted to negotiate alongside Aslef but for several days they refused to share a room with us at ACAS. On one occasion they walked out early in the day so your RMT negotiators where left to meet with management separately to push for a resolution. It was only at the final stage that both the RMT and Aslef met management collectively.

PROPOSED TUPE TRANSFER OF AP JNP FROM TUBE LINES TO LONDON UNDERGROUND LTD (formerly Termination of Amey Maintenance Contract – Tube Lines AP JNP)

We note the correspondence from the company dated 14^th September 2017 and instruct the General Secretary to place a report before this NEC.

Further, we instruct the General Secretary to arrange a meeting of all infrastructure, maintenance and engineering reps from London Underground BCV, SSL and JNP AP with the Lead Officer, Senior Assistant General Secretary and NEC members.

On 15 September, TfL announced a restructuring of London Overground to reduce staff, close ticket offices, and run overnight service. This is on top of plans already afoot to withdraw Overground staff from Underground stations outside weekday peak hours.

These proposals will obviously have an impact on London Underground stations which interchange with London Overground, so RMT is insisting to LUL that it tells the union the details and discusses potential issues. Make sure that you talk to your RMT rep or go to your branch meeting to voice your concerns.
