RMT celebrates role of women transport workers and fight for safe services on International Women's Day

On International Women’s Day RMT General Secretary Mick Cash has sent out a message of solidarity from the union to all women working in the transport sector and those campaigners fighting for a safe and accessible services for all.

Mick Cash said:

“On International Women’s Day RMT sends out a message of solidarity to all of the women working in the transport sector and the campaigning groups who are fighting for safe and accessible services for all. You are an inspiration.

“We particularly want to thank our friends at the ABC commuters group who are raising the issue of safety on the railways at the Department for Transport today – drawing attention to the shocking rise in the number of sexual offences on the network and the need for proper staffing levels and support as opposed to the faceless, de-staffed and intimidating model that some want to see become the norm.

“A transport system where everyone feels safe to travel is a goal that should be supported by all.”

Rail union RMT celebrated a major victory for rail workers after it was confirmed that the outsourced TransPennine Express dispatch contract will be brought back in-house and transferred to Northern Trains.
