I refer to my previous Circular NP/205/13, 5th August 2013, please be advised that Thales managements proposal to increase member contributions midway through a triennial valuation has been rejected by the Railways Pension Scheme Trustee Board.

This is clearly good news for all members of the Thales Pension Scheme who were affectively facing a pay cut had managements shameful proposal been accepted by the trustees. In consideration your General Grades Committee made the following decision on 10th October 2013:

Your RMT Train’s Health and Safety Council have today, Thursday 17th, met with LU to discuss the upcoming industrial action by the London Fire Brigade and the impact that this will have on us as drivers.

This action is scheduled to commence at 18.00hrs on Saturday the 19th and end at 23.00hrs later that evening.

Hundreds of Tube ticket offices will be scrapped next year as Mayor Boris Johnson seeks to cut thousands of London Underground jobs, it was claimed today.

Mobile units of supervisors will replace staff at stations outside zone one in an attempt to move to full automation of ticket sales to cut costs.

Rail unions revealed the proposals as they published a poll showing overwhelming opposition to ticket office closures, with 71 per cent of travellers against full automation.

The issue of mobile Supervisors on the Wembley Central and Hammersmith (at Kew & Gunnersbury) groups moved to ACAS for the most recent talks.
LU has refused to implement the temporary arrangements agreed after a strike in 2008 and has tried to impose a model of mobile supervision.

A derailed freight train on the London Overground at Camden station caused massive delays yesterday, which were expected to continue throughout the week .

RMT general secretary Bob Crow said.

"24 hours on from the derailment at Camden Road we are demanding some clear and consistent information from the transport authorities into a potentially life threatening incident that will leave services closed into next week.

Opinion Poll Shows Londoners' Opposition To Ticket Office Closures And Fare Increases

An RMT news release sent out to today from the RMT's media department increases pressure on LU's plans to close ticket offices. A survey carried out on behalf of the union by 'Survation' clearly shows the the publics opposition to ticket office closures and fare rises. This survey underlines the importance of our union's campaign to keep ticket offices open and shows that the public supports us on this issue.

RMT Seeks Clear Assurances That New Trains Will Have Drivers Cab

We note the resolution from our London Transport Regional Council and share its determination to resist any attempt to introduce driverless trains.

Accordingly, we instruct the General Secretary to:

  • write to London Underground Ltd reminding the company of this union's position, and seeking a clear response as to its intentions for ordering or commissioning new train stock, specifically seeking an assurance that any new stock will include a driver's cab;
  • seek information from our fleet representatives as to any developments on this issue that they may be aware of;
