RAAC (REINFORCED AUTOCLAVED AERATED CONCRETE) IN TfL BUILDINGS

Dear colleague,

Following receipt of information from your London Regional Transport Organiser, I wrote recently to TfL seeking assurances about the possible presence of RAAC (Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) in any TfL buildings of infrastructure.

TfL has now published the following statement. This information is welcome and RMT will continue to be alert to the issue:

No known RAAC on our network and we're continuing to investigate.

I urge all members to return your ballot paper as soon as possible. It is vital that we achieve the highest possible turnout and the highest possible vote saying YES for action to demand that LUL withdraws its plans to remove detrainment staff.

Tube workers facing threats of violence after more than 100 hundred station closures in two months

RMT called on TfL to end its cuts programme, which is forcing repeated station closures across the network, opening staff up to abuse from frustrated passengers.

TfL has had its funding from central government dramatically cut but instead of standing up to ministers, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan is cutting 600 staff and implementing a new rostering system that does not work.

Piccadilly and District West branch motion on plan to reduce driver training

REDUCED DRIVER TRAINING - LONDON UNDERGROUND (LUL/11/1)

The following resolution was recently received from Piccadilly and District West Branch:-

“This branch notes the dangerous new precedent being set by London Underground regarding training.

Despite having well thought out, agreed ways of training drivers, management are attempting to water training down beyond recognition.

RMT’s view is that compulsory wearing of face masks on public transport should continue

I write in relation to the recent decision of UK Government to end “Plan B” restrictions in England, including the removal of the legal requirement for people to work from home and the requirement to wear face coverings in indoor spaces, with the only proviso in relation to face masks being that: 

RMT responds to London air pollution crisis

Responding to reports that Londoners are being advised to reduce physical activity on Fridays due to air pollution, RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch said:

“Car use returning to pre pandemic levels and pollution threatening people’s health confirms that decent greener public transport is essential for public safety.

“And it means now more than ever that the government needs to withdraw proposals to inflict cuts on the Capital’s public transport network.”

RMT advising members to ensure personal safety as masks become compulsory

TRANSPORT UNION RMT said that it's advising all members to ensure that they protect their own personal safety and the safety of their colleagues as a priority as masks become compulsory on transport services in England.

The union has warned that the Government have made no arrangements to resource the enforcement of their policy switch leaving staff in the front line seriously exposed.

RMT on facemasks on public transport

Following the announcement that face masks will become compulsory on public transport, General Secretary Mick Lynch said;

"We support the wearing of masks but there are major issues about enforcement and its our members left in the front line with angry passengers who refuse to comply. 

"The Government must make the resources available to properly police this reintroduction of compulsory face coverings on our transport services . 

75% of Tube workers subjected to workplace violence during Covid crisis

3 in 4 London Underground and TfL staff subjected to violence at work during Covid crisis, survey shows.

76% of staff in public facing roles on London’s Underground and TfL rail networks have been subjected to violence at work since the pandemic began, according to a new RMT survey, with half of these reporting that it has happened multiple times.
