Report: European Parliament Public Hearing on Work-Life Balance and Gender Equality

On Wednesday 18 March, the ETF Women’s Committee attended a public hearing on Work-Life Balance and Gender Equality, held by the European Parliament’s Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality. Members Feedback Wanted On Equalities Impact of Tube Job Cut Plan

A group of union reps are examining the impact of London Underground Ltd’s proposals for Fit for the Future – Stations on equality groups including women members, black and ethnic minority members, lesbian/gay/bi/trans members, disabled members, older members (55+) and younger members (under 30).

We would like to hear from members about any concerns and opinions you have about the way you think the proposals will impact on you and your workmates.

WEA Course: International Women's Day

Celebrate ‘A History of Action by Women Workers.’ International Women’s Day was born out of the struggle of women in the New York City garment industry at the turn of the century and in Russia in February 1917 where their protests turned revolutionary.

The course will outline these developments at the beginning of the 20th century and consider their relevance today.

RMT exposes full impact of tube cuts on women, older and disabled people and the BAME community

As the tube action enters its third day, with continuing rock solid support, RMT has revealed that London Underground's own assessment of the impact of its proposals on passengers raises concerns that the cuts will have a seriously adverse impact on women, older and disabled people and the BAME community,

The revelations come as RMT General Secretary Bob Crow joins a protest by disabled workers against the tube cuts on Thursday 6th February at 2.30pm at Tottenham Court Road tube station.

I attended this conference as a member of the ETF Women's Committee, and was the only UK trade unionist present as a delegate. This was the final conference of the 'Bargaining For Equality' project, which we had not, to my knowledge, been aware of until now. The Project sought to address inequality in men's and women's wages, and to identify collective bargaining strategies that would tackle these inequalities.
