News, reports and information for TfL staff

Press Release TSSA

Please see attached press release by TSSA and UNISON. The quotes from Gerry Doherty (TSSA) and Dave Prentis (UNISON) are a bit rich considering that in this area they have been in the process of shedding jobs since September 2008! Hundreds have already gone without a mention from these General Secretaries. Why the interest now?

TSSA News Release 8 June 2009 Tfl wastes millions on consultants while thousands face sack UNISON and the TSSA today slammed TfL for wasting millions on consultants while attempting to fill a £2.4billion budget black hole by sacking thousands of staff.

  • Rates of Pay & Conditions of Service 2009, Redundancies – TfL

From RMT official circular IR/152/09, dated 7th May 2009

    Dear Colleague,

As with LUL it was decided not to use the ‘YES’ vote returned by members as a result of the challenge we had received. We have now had the opportunity to check the details we send to management and are to re-ballot TfL members.

As with LUL the issues remain the same and I list these below for ease of reference.

RMT to re-ballot 10,000 Tube and TfL workers over jobs, pay and breaches of agreements

    RMT press release, issued today

THE TUBE’S biggest union is to re-ballot nearly 10,000 members across London Underground and Transport for London for strike action in separate disputes centred on jobs, pay and breaches of disciplinary and attendance agreements.

The re-run of the strike ballots follows a provocative legal challenge by LUL to ballots last month, which nonetheless showed a rock-solid five-to-one majority in favour of action.

    April 2009 TfL No.1 BRANCH April 2009

    NEWSLETTER

Despite the overwhelming majority voting for industrial action to force management into meaningful talks on both pay and job cuts, London Underground (LUL) have threatened to silence the membership by having its lawyers use legal loopholes contained in the anti-trade union laws to deny the democratic right to take action.

The RMT will not allow its members to be treated in this way, and will now re-ballot with a campaign for an even bigger majority 'YES' vote. TfL members will also re-ballot to maintain unity throughout any action.

    =====

    Dear Comrades

Although this is a situation that may be completely new to a lot of you, because of TfL’s total intransigence on this year’s pay claim and the spectre of thousands of job cuts over the next couple of years, the RMT in support of its members has taken the decision to ballot for industrial action.

This decision has not been taken lightly. It is the culmination of many branch meetings across TfL, and following management and Trade Union meetings at the company council.

Why RMT is Balloting for Industrial Action

    From Steve Hedley, Regional Organiser

    Dear brothers sisters and comrades

We are facing several attacks from the employers right now and we have had requests for strike ballots on no compulsory redundancies, pay, breaking of agreements and failure to carry out meaningful consultation. Having discussed the issues the Council of Executives has agreed that a ballot will be conducted on LUL and coordinated with a ballot on TfL.The issues for the LUL ballot are:

Meeting: Decent Pay, Secure Jobs, Open the Books!

A mass meeting for London Underground, Metronet and TfL workers.

Speakers include: Bob Crow (RMT General Secretary) and Steve Hedley (RMT London Transport Regional Organiser), plus RMT reps.

Come and show your support for our fight to save jobs and win a decent pay rise, and join the discussion about how to make this fight as effective as possible.

Affected by the Job-Cutting OCR? Advice from RMT ...

Advice for RMT Members regarding the Operational Cost Review (OCR)
Read the text below, and download the advice as an A4 sheet

The RMT is deeply concerned at LUL's announcement that they are getting rid of 970 so called “back room staff” as part of an operational cost review. It is a disgrace that at a time when billions of pounds are being found to subsidise the banks, London's Railway Infrastructure and Services are being cut back.
