Model resolution for Trades Council and trade union branches - SOS: Staff Our Stations

RMT faces a vital struggle to stop London Underground's plans to cut 7-800 jobs. We would like the support of the wider trade union movement.

If you are a member of another trade union, or if you are a delegate to a trades council (borough TUC), please consider proposing a resolution on this subject to your next meeting. You may like to base it on the draft below.

Resolution - SOS: Staff Our Stations

X TUC deplores TfL's announcement of 7-800 job cuts on London Underground. We share workers' and passengers' view that Underground stations need more staff, not fewer. The cuts will endanger safety and services. The economic crisis is no excuse for these job cuts, as the government should create jobs (especially public sector, 'green' jobs such as these) rather than cut them.

We resolve to: - fully support RMT's campaign to stop these job cuts - send a message to RMT's London Transport Regional Council expressing our support - publicise the campaign to all our affiliated trade union branches - promote the 'Staff Our Stations' webpage, www.rmtplaform.org.uk/sos - fully support industrial action to stop these job cuts - purchase 100(?) enamel 'SOS: Staff Our Stations' badges from RMT's London Transport Regional Council, at £1 each - organise, in co-operation with local RMT branches, a lobby of our local MP/GLA member
