Resolution: Women and the Economic Crisis - Redundancies

This resolution, submitted by LU Engineering Branch, was passed unanimiously by RMT Women's Conference 2009.

That this Conference is amazed that any organisation funded publicly should be making redundancies at a time of recession. It is far too often the jobs done by women which are cut. Administration is an easy target. Women train drivers and other engineering grades are likely to be decimated, putting the clock back again and destroying the gains we have made. We demand that the employers are made to provide information on the proportion of male to female workers who are selected for redundancy, and reminded of their obligations not to discriminate directly or indirectly. RMT shall give its strong support to any member who feels discriminated against, directly or indirectly.
