Tribute to Brother Andy Melvin R.I.P.

Andy MelvinOn Thursday 23rd July Brother Andy Melvin passed away from bronchopneumonia in Whipps Cross Hospital.

Andy was a fantastic guy, ready to help everyone and anyone. He was a long serving member of the RMT and an activist from day one.

Andy started out on the buses before joining TfL and becoming a Supervisor in the Liverpool Street Travel Information Centre.

He was one of the founder members of the TfL No.1 branch back in 2004, and held the positions of Vice Chair and Senior Industrial Relations Rep.

Andy was an active member of the RMT’s National LGBT Advisory Committee and enjoyed life to the full.

We will always remember him as the guy with a big smile and an either bigger heart. He loved his beer and a rendition of ‘cheer up sleepy jean’ on the karaoke. His long phone calls explaining every detail of his cases, his life and the gossip and ensuring we provided the same, there was always ‘one more thing’. His passion for the RMT and its members will not be forgotten.

We offer our sympathy to his mum Irene, step dad Ken, brother Eddie and his best friends Mike Candlish –Butt and Linda Stringer. Andy had many friends and all our lives will be poorer due to his passing.

May he rest in peace on a rainbow cloud, with a pint and an RMT application form at the ready.

In fondness, his fraternal family, TfL No.1 branch
