Mayoral elections 2016 - Where do the candidates stand on issues important to RMT members?

In my role as RMT union’s LTRC Political Officer, I was instructed to contact mayoral candidates standing in the London 2016 elections. This was to determine which one of the candidate supports key union policies and our members best interests. For obvious reasons and as stated, the Tories and any party (considered) opposed to socialist principles were not contacted.

The questions incorporate RMT active Parliamentary Groups pursuit of a progressive transport and employment agenda based on the following principles:

Piccadilly Line News March 2016

Piccadilly News is the newsletter for train drivers on the Piccadilly Line. In this edition, which comes after rock solid strike action on the line:

- Strike rock solid
- Why we shut the line
- Justice for Oakwood Six
- Cockfosters Depot Fiasco
- I HATE YOU, BUTLER!

And don't forget -Unless there is an outbreak of common sense among line management, two further 24-hour strikes will take place as follows:
Tuesday 19 April, 1200hrs to Weds 20 April, 1159hrs
Thursday 21 April, 1200hrs to Friday 22 April, 1159hrs

Health & safety issues - Make sure you report it

Reporting Incidents
This is an issue that constantly raises its head at the Trains H&S council. We get reports from management that everything is rosy in their paperwork and graph filled little worlds. Funnily enough at the THSC we have entirely different view. We actually talk to our local reps and members and don’t have the target led approach to H&S so naturally don’t see it their way.

RMT General Secretary congratulates Piccadilly Line strikers

Dear Colleagues

BREAKDOWN IN INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS, TRAIN OPERATORS, PICCADILLY LINE – LONDON UNDERGROUND

Further to my letter of yesterday’s date, first of all I would like to congratulate you all on the magnificent display of solidarity that you and your colleagues are participating in today. All Piccadilly Line services are currently suspended and will remain so throughout the rest of the day.

Tube bosses refuse to address serious issues at heart of dispute and strike goes ahead tonight on Piccadilly Line

Tube union RMT  today confirmed that there have been no further talks and 24 hours of strike action goes ahead from nine o’clock tonight by nearly 400 train operators across the Piccadilly Line over a comprehensive breakdown in industrial relations combining a range of issues. No services will be running.

85% voted for strike action with an even larger number voting for action short of a strike.

Piccadilly strike remains on due to 'out of control' management

Dear RMT members,

This afternoon I have received a letter from LUL on the above. After waiting 6 days for any contact.

We made it clear at ACAS last week that our three (with three aslef as well) 6 in total victimised members at Oakwood need to be exonerated before the strike called for tomorrow. They've had at least 6 days from acas and weeks before that as well with all other issues to be resolved.

This has not been offered. An appeal for one member which is a legal entitlement is all that is forthcoming, as well as a meeting for another case and an acas review.

RMT Women's Membership and Participation Survey

Dear Comrades,

This is my first project as your newly elected Women's officer for the London Transport Region. We would like as many women members as possible to complete the following survey so that we can support more RMT women workers to take ownership and control of their union. With this in mind, please do all you can to share the link amongst your colleagues from all grades, full time, part time, zero hours, everybody!

Thanks very much for your help.

Marie Harrington
