High Speed Rail 2

RMT welcomes high speed rail 2, but warns that it mustn't be at the expense of jobs or services elsewhere in the rail system and should be built, run and owned by the public sector.

Bob Crow, RMT General Secretary, said: “No one has fought harder for the investment and modernisation required to drag the UK’s railways out of the slow lane than RMT and development of high speed links must be a key component of our rail plans.

UK Taxpayers Face £140 Million Bill To Prop Up Destruction Of Train Building Industry

Rail union RMT today demanded that the Government reverse the decision to award the crucial Thameslink fleet contract to Siemens after it emerged in a series of parliamentary answers to Derby MP Chris Williamson that the Siemens bid was priced in Euros and with the 10% decline in the value of the currency since tendering the cost to the UK taxpayer on the £1.4 billion contract has soared by £140 million.

Young Members Conference 2012

The young members' conference takes place in London from Thursday 23rd - Saturday 25th February. Branches are entitled to send four delegates per branch to this conference.

Metroline Boxing Day Pay 2011

Boxing Day pay deal at Metroline 2011.

In 2010 the Boxing Day pay was £422 as an average.
In 2011 it is £303 as an average.

A difference of £119 less for the drivers compared to 2010.

This is a -28.2% reduction in their pay!!!

The total duties worked on Boxing Day 2011 at West Perivale Garage excluding the new 105 route was 94.

Taxi Emissions

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

We note the correspondence from the London Taxi Branch regarding the 15 year vehicle age limit to be imposed on the London Taxi trade as part of proposals to reduce vehicle. We note that there is a conversion kit available for buses that allow them to become compliant with EURO 4 emissions regulations and have been made aware that such a conversion kit could be made available for the older black cabs.
