Assaults: Don't Accept It, Report It

Action Against Assaults campaign

RMT public transport members like you and your colleagues are facing unacceptable levels of violence and abuse at work.
That’s why RMT launched its Action Against Assaults campaign – to tackle violence and abuse on public transport and demand employers take action to keep you safe at work.

I know that for many of you, abuse has become so normalised that many now consider it ‘part of the job’ and see little point in reporting incidents. However, RMT’s message to you is clear – assaults are not part of your job, and you don’t have to accept them.

It is vital that you report all incidents of abuse and assault to your employer - verbal, physical, threats and anything else. Reporting all incidents shows the true scale of the problem and RMT will use this to demand that employers take proper action to protect staff from abuse and assault at work, as they are legally required to do.

If you are unsure how to report in your workplace, speak to your RMT rep. You should also let your RMT rep know about any violence at work incidents. If you call the BTP/police to an incident – still make a report in your employer’s system.

So, my message to RMT members is this: Don’t accept it – report it.  Assaults are not part of the job.

Yours Sincerely
