RMT ISS Cleaners Newsletter

A newsletter has been produced for cleaners working for ISS. It includes information about ISS attempt to introduce 'fingerprint booking on' and explains the unions aspirations for cleaners at work.

RMT Say No To Fingerprinting Of Cleaners

That we note the letter from ISS stating that the company refuses to retract their unfounded statement that this Union ‘did agree to a trial of the biometric system’ but they now accept that we are opposed to any trial of a bio-metric time and attendance system.

This Union has always rejected the trials of this biometric entry system.

Further, we note that a meeting with the Lead Officer and the Company is due to take place on September 10th. An urgent report from the Lead Officer is to be placed back in front of this GGC once this meeting has taken place.

RMT To Meet With Initial Bosses In Attempt To Halt Victimization Of Sister Osagiede

We note that Initial has issued Sister Osagiede with a written warning and that she is appealing this decision.

We further note that Initial is, separately from the disciplinary sanction, attempting to relocate Sister Osagiede to Aldgate station. This is unacceptable to Sister Osagiede and to RMT, as:

  • Clara is contracted to Hainault depot
  • There is now no impediment to Clara returning to Hainault depot as management's investigation is completed
  • Clara has had her disciplinary and received a written warning, not any decision to change her work location

RMT Tells Initial To Stop Attack On Sister Osagiede

We note that Initial has issued Sister Osagiede with a written warning and that she is appealing this decision.

We further note that Initial is, separately from the disciplinary sanction, attempting to relocate Sister Osagiede to Aldgate station. This is unacceptable to Sister Osagiede and to RMT, as:
• Clara is contracted to Hainault depot
• There is now no impediment to Clara returning to Hainault depot as management's investigation is completed
• Clara has had her disciplinary and received a written warning, not any decision to change her work location

Motions Passed at Regional Council Meeting July 2013

Funding Cuts
We are appalled by the Chancellor's announcement of a 9% funding cut to the Department for Transport, including a 12.5% funding cut to Transport for London. This savage cut can only lead to attacks on jobs, conditions, service standards and safety on all TfL services: London Underground, London Overground, buses, DLR and others.

We believe that the union should not wait for the detail of these cuts to be announced, but should launch a campaign now, building on our previous work and based around:

Cleaners To Take a Fortnight Of Action For Workplace Justice

TRANSPORT UNION RMT confirmed today that cleaners working for Churchill on the Tyne and Wear Metro will mount a serious escalation of their long running battle for pay and workplace justice when they begin two weeks of strike action this Friday, 12th July, in a move that coincides with the massive Durham Miners Gala in the region.

RMT Fully Opposed To Fingerprinting Of Workers

We note the report from our Regional Organiser and agree that our members should be empowered to refuse to book on using biometric systems.

We reiterate that we are completely opposed to fingerprinting and other biometric booking on
procedures, as these infringe on our members’ civil liberties and threaten jobs.

Accordingly, we instruct the General Secretary to immediately conduct a ballot of our members on this contract for industrial action short of strike, to a timescale that enables action to be taken from the date on which ISS attempts to impose this system.
