Dear Colleague,
1. National LGBT Members’ Conference - 13th May 2011 (EO/32)
As a public body, London Underground has to carry out an assessment of the impact of any new policy on various equality issues. The attached file is LU's Equality Impact Assessment (EQIA) for its current OSP (policy of cutting 800 mainly-stations jobs). Below is the response to this document that I have written on behalf of RMT. You will see from this that LU's EQIA falls woefully short, and ignores key equality issues.
The following resolution, submitted by TfL no.1 branch, was carried unanimously by the July meeting of the Regional Council ...
Haiti humanitarian lawyer Mario Joseph was a guest speaker invited to the UK to appear at various venues, including the RMT Black and Ethnic Minority Committee. He was refused entry into the UK for the most obscure of reasons.
The refusal to admit Mario Joseph is an insult to all who care about Haiti and its people.
Please find below a request from Head Office for submission of delegate nominations, 2011 venue nominations and more importantly, resolution submissions for equality conferences.

A demonstration is to take place at the offices of UBS at 100, Liverpool Street, EC2, to protest against the actions of Lancaster (Rentokil).
Alberto Durango was sacked from Lancaster on 4th February 2010 for organising the workers and standing up for their rights. Alberto is a good friend of London RMT Bus Workers and they are asked to attend and give their support to him and the cleaners.
The cleaners are being pressured to agree to a cut in working hours with subsequent loss of pay while still being expected to do the same amount of work.
The English Defence League (EDL), a far right 'anti-Islamist' group has accused the RMT of preventing a member of the league's LGBT division from taking part in a protest against 'Islamic homophobia'. In an article on the EDL website, the group condemns the RMT for organising a counter-demonstration.
A demonstration will take place from 1pm - 2pm at 100, Liverpool Street, London, EC2, in support of Alberto Durango, a cleaner and rep who has been harassed, victimised and was sacked for his union activities by Lancaster (Rentokil).
Alberto is a good friend of London RMT Bus Workers and they are asked to attend the demonstration and give their support to him.
