We note the correspondence from London Underground, calling a meeting to discuss the process for conducting the review of the machineries. We instruct the General Secretary to ensure that the appropriate officer and representatives attend this meeting, and to provide them with copies of previous decisions on this issue.

We note that while this review was originally of the industrial relations and health & safety machineries, the correspondence from LUL now suggests that it covers other areas

We note the correspondence from London Underground Ltd and that our branch and representatives refute the company’s stance and confirm that management are still abusing procedures. We therefore instruct the General Secretary to demand an urgent meeting with LUL to attempt to resolve this issue, and to place a report of this meeting in front of us.

London Transport Regional Council and branches to be advised.

Revenue control members across London underground are looking at what action to take in response to several issues now impacting the deparment. They include:

• Christmas Leave being cancelled, even though already agreed
• Duty mangers trying their hardest not to grant requests for odd days leave
• Flexible working and mutual swaps being ripped up
• Staff being coerced to break the framework to take part in special exercises
• Morale at an all-time low

A London Underground cleaner pulled a child to safety from a railway line just moments after a driver hit their trains emergency brakes and prevented what could have been a fatal incident.

The eight year old boy was pulled to safety from the Jubilee Line tracks at Stanmore just moments after a train was brought to an emergency stop by the driver a few feet away.

Northern Line Training Latest from Trains Health And Safety Council

Local Reps met with Trains Health and Safety Council and Trains Functional Council representatives and RMT Head Office to formulate RMT concerns over training and delivery of any agreed training.

Training Course: That initial feedback be received in a positive manner to help improve and tailor the course to meet t/ops needs.

Practical Training:

A petition has been set up calling for a public enquiry into London's air pollution which it is claimed causes thousands of deaths each year. An enquiry could determine whether London's Mayor and TFL have failed to reduce air pollution levels. The petition claims that "every day thousands of Underground passengers and staff are exposed to vented street level pollution which exceeds healthy EU Air Quality levels. We note the report from our Regional Organiser regarding spheres of influence of branches within London Transport region. We endorse the report and instruct the General Secretary to ensure its implementation.

From Trains Functional Council

Just to update everyone on the Northern Line about what is happening regarding the training and i/o’s, there are lots of rumours regarding the working practice that may be asked of the i/o’s during TBTC training and the testing of TBTC area when it goes live at west finchley next february.

The RMT’s postion is clear on this, all IO’s must not be asked to breach their framework agreement in anyway
to facilitate this training.

We note the failure of the Joint Working Party to achieve our demands of pensions and travel equality, and the desire of our representatives to take further industrial action. This is in line with our previous decision of 27 July to call targeted, serious, sustained, effective and strategically-planned action, in pursuit of this dispute. Should Tube Lines continue to refuse our entirely justified demands, we are prepared to take further industrial action and to continue this campaign until we are successful.

We note the reports from our representatives, which reveal a catalogue of measures from London Underground Ltd aimed at preparing the ground for job cuts.

These affect every grade of London Underground worker and underline the need for RMT to pursue a united, active and thought-out response, in order to defend our members’ jobs and London’s transport services.
