We Intend To Stand Firm. We Intend To Stand Our Ground. We Intend To Fight All Job Cuts

From General Secretary Bob Crow
A resolution was received from our East Ham Branch was as follows: -

“We note TfL’s determination to bulldoze through further job cuts on London Underground (LU) and we note previous duplicitous statements by senior LU managers that customers and staff should be assured that all LU stations will continue to be staffed at all times and all stations with a ticket office will continue to have one.

RMT In Dispute With LUL Over Poor Guidelines Regarding Clearing Snow From Platforms

From General Secretary Bob Crow

I write to advise branches that a formal complaint has been made to LUL on the subject of snow clearing and winter weather. The RMT Stations Safety Council has raised this as an issue with the company without resolution and has now exhausted the machinery. The Stations Safety Council has raised the following items with the ORR and the company:

  • Insufficient local, practical training packages are available and have not been delivered to staff.

Strategy Proposal For Fighting Job Cuts And Attacks On Tube Driver Conditions

As I understand it, the main current issues facing drivers are:

  • a clampdown on discipline and attendance
  • LUL refusing to confirm that Met line T/Ops only will operate the S7 train on the Met line
  • plans to deploy I/Ops on lines other than their own and/or to cross-train other lines' T/Ops or
I/Os as occurred on the Met line
  • new drivers being repeatedly moved from depot to depot
  • the possible development of a pool of drivers covering a larger area than just one depot, or
    even one line

RMT Against Boxing Day 'Annual Leave Sale' For Tube Drivers

We note the correspondence from London Underground Ltd concerning Boxing Day working arrangements for drivers. We strongly oppose the company’s position, as it seeks to establish the principle of drivers being able to, in effect, sell their annual leave entitlement.

We instruct the General Secretary to obtain a report on the views of our trains representatives concerning ASLEF’s dispute with LUL on Boxing Day working.

London Transport Regional Council and branches to be advised.

Union Opposes All Job Cuts On London Underground And Across TfL

We note the resolution from our East Ham branch concerning job cuts, and that similar resolutions have been passed by several other branches.

We share the views of our branches, and affirm that this union opposes all job cuts on London Underground and across TfL. We instruct the General Secretary to ensure that this position is made clear in relevant union publications and public statements and in any meetings and correspondence with the employers.

RMT Reaffirms Determination To Resist Automation As An Attack On Jobs

We note the correspondence from London Underground Ltd.

LUL’s letter confirms our suspicions that it still intends to increase automation in order to attack jobs and conditions, and we reaffirm our determination to resist this.

We further note reports that some testing of technology to facilitate driverless trains may have taken place at Wembley during the first weekend of November. We instruct the General Secretary to obtain an urgent report on this, and to place it in front of us.
