Massive vote for strike action in train prep ballot

Nine to one vote for strike action by over a thousand key London Underground staff

TUBE UNION RMT confirmed today that over a thousand key London Underground maintenance and engineering staff have voted by around nine to one for both strike action and action short of a strike in a dispute over the hacking back of train preparation and inspection schedules which the union warns would have a devastating impact on both service reliability and public safety.

The staff work at tube fleet maintenance depots right across Greater London.

Train prep schedule ballot papers have been sent out

Dear Colleagues,

EXTENDED TRAIN PREPARATION SCHEDULE - LONDON UNDERGROUND (formerly Train Preparation Schedule - London Underground) (LUL/14/10)

Further to my previous Circular (IR/97/19, 6th March 2019), the decision was taken to re-commence this ballot and I issued fresh correspondence to advise the Company that a dispute situation exists over its intentions to extend the Fleet train preparation schedules. The Company has failed to engage in any meaningful consultation or negotiation with RMT or provide us with full information on all safety aspects.

LU Pay Talks Update

The third day of London Underground pay talks took place yesterday (Wednesday 13th March). RMT Regional Organiser, John Leach, attended with reps from the seven Functional Councils RMT has recognition on. The company had previously asked us to remove a number of items from our pay claim before they would make us a financial offer. We refused this request and returned yesterday to continue to engage in meaningful talks with the company. There were discussions about improving staff travel facilities and also around our demand for a 32 hour, 4 day working week.

All fleet maintenance to be balloted over proposed safety cuts

Subject: TRAIN PREPARATION SCHEDULE – LONDON UNDERGROUND

That we note that the company are intent on a wholesale watering down of train inspection frequencies beyond all recognition across the LUL network; thereby introducing significant risks to the travelling public and our members of various grades.

All Transplant members balloted over bosses 'Transformation' cuts attack

SUBJECT: TFL TRANSFORMATION

That we note the report on file from the Lead Officer; that the company are steaming ahead trying to ride roughshod over our Transplant members with
Transformations job cuts.

The company has not only failed to consult the union properly; but have breached the Main Agreement which no union worth its salt would tolerate.

'Train prep schedule' dispute arises over management inaction

Subject: TRAIN PREPARATION SCHEDULE – LONDON UNDERGROUND

That we note the report from our Lead Officer concerning the failure of the company to engage in meaningful talks with this union; and their ignoring of letters from the Lead Officer.

This matter is of the upmost importance to this union; and we will not be subject to a railroading through of these far-reaching proposals which affect the safety of the travelling public and various grades of our members; notably our Fleet and Train Operator members.

Strike dates named in defence of brother Codd

A CODD TRACK ACCESS CONTROL LONDON UNDERGROUND

That we note that no progress has been made with the company, who have not made any reasonable offer to settle this dispute but are continuing with their vindictive
stitch-up against Bro Codd.

Accordingly; we instruct all members to take strike action by not booking on for shifts commencing between:

  • 19.00hrs on Sunday 30 th December and 18.59hrs on Monday 31 st December 2018.

Members to be advised by email and text.
