I had received serious reports from our London Overground Branches with regards to the harassment of our Conductor members. Incidents that were reported included the covert monitoring of Conductors, the misuse of the disciplinary procedure and LOROL were preventing our members from wearing RMT badges, ties and lanyards, whereas ASLEF members were allowed to wear their union’s regalia.

The General Grades Commitee said "“We note the report from our Regional Organiser and that the issues have been addressed."

The Regional Organiser has now met with LOROL management and a copy of his report can be found attached to this Circular. The report from the Regional Organiser has recently been subject to consideration by the General Grades Committee and the following decision has been taken:

“That we note the report from our Regional Organiser and that a meeting has taken place with management where the issues have been addressed. The General Secretary to inform our LOROL Branches of the position and enclose our Regional Organiser’s Report.”

From Regional Organiser Steve Hedley

1. The wearing of union ties. It was accepted that if people were of smart appearance in accordance with the uniform policy then the wearing of RMT/Aslef ties would not be an issue and nobody would be disciplined for this.
2. The issues of women's blouses would be sorted out immediately with adequate uniforms being issued as soon as possible.
3. Proposals for a Blue Hv for conductors to be modified to wearing an orange and grey hv with surgeries set up to elicit staffs views.
4. I have sought advice the agreement on conductors (2009/1) attending meetings outside their working hours was signed w hen there was a 37 hour week and this allowed staff an extra rest day in their roster. Since the
   reduction to a 36 hour week the agreement is null and void. The contract of employment is now for a 36 hour
   week and conductors cannot be made to do compulsory unpaid overtime. I hope that this clears the matter up.
