Tube drivers to strike following 'overly harsh' sacking of colleague

Following the recent ballot result in favour of taking strike action and action short of a strike in protest against the unfair dismissal of your RMT colleague Brother Dean Storey, your Reps met yesterday to discuss the matter. As a result and having noted the views from this meeting, the National Executive Committee has taken the decision to call on all affected members at West Ruislip Traincrew Depot and White City Traincrew Depot NOT TO BOOK ON for any shifts that commence between:-

  • 03:00 hours on Saturday 24th December 2016 and 02:59 hours on Sunday 25th December 2016.
  • 03:00 hours on Monday 9th January 2017 and 02:59 hours on Tuesday 10th January 2017.

Whilst Dean was responsible for a SPAD, the actions by management were overly harsh and incompatible with other similar cases where Drivers were not dismissed. This was a simple mistake, not an avoidance of the rules and I urge you all to stand firm together to demand that management use some common sense and stop using dismissal as a first response to any misdemeanour.

SUPPORT THE ACTION – UNITY IS STRENGTH

LUL has been advised that we will remain in dispute until this matter is resolved to members’ satisfaction and I will of course keep you advised of all further developments.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
