Opposing cuts in staffing levels and jobs

RMT Plans National 'SOS: Staff Our Stations' Campaign

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

We welcome the AGM resolution calling for a national ‘SOS: Staff Our Stations’ campaign, particularly considering the renewed threat to station staffing posed by the McNulty report. We will campaign on this issue in conjunction with our campaign on McNulty.

We further note that a meeting has been arranged between ourselves and the TSSA on 24 October to discuss this issue. We instruct the General Secretary to prepare for this meeting by:

Finsbury Park 'Community Wardens'

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

We note the report from our Regional Organiser, that London Underground has given an assurance that the ‘community wardens’ are not used in Finsbury Park station, and that our local representatives confirm this.

We remain vigilant over this or similar developments, and ask branches and representatives to inform us if they become aware of any attempt to use non-LUL people to carry out or infringe upon LUL staff’s work.
London Transport Regional Council and branches to be advised.

RMT Challenges Use of Agency and Security Staff on Wembley Central Stations Group

General Grades Committee decision:

We note the report from our Bakerloo branch with concern.

We do not accept the removal of station staff detrainment jobs as a result of the introduction of ‘inner car barriers’ on trains. We instruct the General Secretary to obtain a detailed report from our representatives on the current position in discussions with the company about this.

RMT Reveals That McNulty Was Paid Nearly A Quarter Of A Million Pounds For Rail Carve Up Report

RAIL UNION RMT revealed today that Sir Roy McNulty was paid nearly quarter of a million pounds by the Government for writing his “rail review” report that, if implemented, would lead to savage cuts in staffing number and huge increases in fares as the private train companies are given a free run to plunder the network for even greater profits.

Demonstration To Be Held To Defend Bombardier Derby Works

SAVE UK TRAIN MAKING MASS MARCH AND RALLY THIS SATURDAY

Tens of thousands of trade unionists are expected to be out on the streets of Derby this Saturday (23rd July) in a mass march and rally to save the last train-building plant in the UK - Bombardiers Derby works.
The march will assemble at Bass’s Recreation Ground, Derby (DE1 2PB) (Map.) at 10am and is supported by RMT, Unite, GMB and TSSA.

RMT Vows to Fight Bombardier Job Cuts

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

We condemn Bombardier’s plan to cut hundreds of jobs at its Derby plant, with 446 job cuts already notified with the total probably to rise to 1400. These job cuts follow the decision by the Government not to award the Thameslink contract to Bombardier, will cause further job losses in Bombardier’s supply chain, and will be a devastating blow to Derby and its surrounding area.

Bombardier’s Derby plant should be brought into public ownership (as should the whole railway industry), to protect jobs, services and train manufacturing.
