RMT Executive decisions

Decisions of RMT's Council of Executives, and of RMT's General Grades Committee (the section of the Council of Executives which deals with industrial matters for railway and other non-shipping grades)

RMT Challenges Use of Agency and Security Staff on Wembley Central Stations Group

General Grades Committee decision:

We note the report from our Bakerloo branch with concern.

We do not accept the removal of station staff detrainment jobs as a result of the introduction of ‘inner car barriers’ on trains. We instruct the General Secretary to obtain a detailed report from our representatives on the current position in discussions with the company about this.

RMT to Campaign Against Violence Against Women

Council of Executives decision:

That we fully support the resolution and note our support and affiliation to End Violence Against Women campaign. We instruct the General Secretary to bring to the Equal Rights Sub-Committee a model policy for our Lead Officers to obtain nationwide.

Further, a suitable article for RMT News be drafted by EVAW concentrating on our members' experiences. Reference should be made in the article to the experiences mentioned in the AGM debate and also to the impact of the cuts on women's refuges.

RMT to Fight Affect of Cuts on Women

Council of Executives decision:

That we note the resolution and agree to donate £100 to both the Merseyside Women Against the Cuts and London Women Against the Cuts.

An article is to be placed in RMT News and write to women on the NWAC asking if they are aware of such campaigns. In addition, the latest TUC briefing on this is to be sent and placed on our website, along with this resolution.

RMT Rejects London Underground's Latest Below-Inflation Pay Offer

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

We reject the latest offer from London Underground on the following grounds:

  • The revised offer of 5% for this year is still below the February RPI figure of 5.5% and is thus a real-terms pay cut. It is important that pay rises keep pace with, or preferably exceed, price rises, and that the same month's RPI figure is used each year in order to track price rises year-on-year.

RMT Continues Campaign for Stations Jobs

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

We note the thorough discussions that took place at the meeting of our representatives on 24 May, and the reports from our Regional Organiser and Stations & Revenue Council representatives. We also note LU management’s response to the reviews dated 25 May. We instruct the General Secretary to write urgently to LU, summarising the issues raised by our representatives at ACAS as outlined in the file, informing the company that we find its response totally inadequate and insisting on a more detailed response.

RMT to Consider Website Improvements and an 'App'

RMT Council of Executives decisions:

RMT Membership ‘App’

That we note the resolution from the London Transport Regional Council and we see the positive nature that an ‘App’ could do for our union. The General Secretary is to invite a suitable software designer to give a presentation to the Council of Executives on the benefits and the protection we would need to bring this idea forward.

Thales Reps' Elections

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

That we welcome the verbal report from our Branch Secretary that the elections to the vacant representatives’ positions have now taken place to the satisfaction of our branch. We note, however, that elections for health and safety representatives are outstanding, and instruct the General Secretary to pursue this with the employer.

RMT Demands Recognition in TfL Taxi Engagement Policy

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

We note the resolution from our London Taxis branch and accept the sentiments expressed in it. London taxi drivers face many important issues, and this union should have the right to represent our members’ views on these issues through the TfL Taxi Engagement Policy. We therefore demand that the Taxi Engagement Policy recognise RMT, as it does other organisations, as a bona fide representative body of taxi drivers.

We therefore instruct the General Secretary to:
