RMT Disabled Members’ Advisory Committee And Conference

from General Secretary Bob Crow

In my Circular No. NP/062/11, 4th April 2011, I sought to establish the views of Branches as to whether an advisory committee and/or conference be established for our member with disabilities. The five responses received were placed before the Council of Executives who noted and adopted the following recommendation:-

Your Rights Transfer With You

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

We note the legal advice, which is supportive of our view that as staff transfer from the employment of London Underground Ltd to TfL, all contractual and non-contractual working arrangements and benefits transfer with them under TUPE.

We instruct the General Secretary, in line with our previous decision of 15 September, to share this legal opinion with TSSA, and to place in front of us a report giving a proposed way forward on this issue jointly with our sister union.

Progress towards Justice for Jayesh?

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

We note the letter from London Underground’s Director of Employee Relations, informing us that he has reviewed Brother Patel’s case and indicating that some progress with the case may be possible. We instruct the General Secretary to seek a meeting with the Director of Employee Relations to seek clarification on the content of the letter and pursue further progress with this case.

London Transport Regional Council and branches to be advised.

RMT Tells London Underground: Withdraw Your Unsafe Procedure for Drivers

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

We note the correspondence from London Underground, asking this union to reconsider our industrial action on this issue [the Operational Effectiveness Programme]. We reaffirm that as London Underground has not withdrawn its plan to impose unsafe working practices for train drivers, our industrial action ballot continues, alongside the publicity campaign outlined in our previous decision.

We instruct the General Secretary to reply to LU, inviting the company to reconsider its imposition of unsafe working practices.

RMT to Meet London Underground about Drivers' Olympics 'Deal'

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

We note the correspondence from London Underground concerning our objections to the ‘deal’ over train drivers’ working conditions during the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and the offer of a meeting between the Chair of the Trains Functional Council and our Regional Organiser to discuss this.

We instruct the General Secretary to ensure that this meeting takes place and to obtain a report of the meeting from our Regional Organiser, which is to be placed in front of us.

Rmt Demands End Of Rail Job Cuts Threat As Report Warns Of “strong Possibility” Of Norway Style Gun Attack On Transport System

RAIL UNION RMT today called on the Government to “wholly reject” the McNulty Rail Review proposals to axe station-based staff and guards on trains after the union was presented with a stark intelligence report from Southeastern Railways setting out a strategy for dealing with a Mumbai or Norway style “Active Shooter” attack on the railways with a warning that such an attack is a “strong possibility.”

Harassment Of Conductors On London Overground

from General Secretary Bob Crow

I had received serious reports from our London Overground Branches with regards to the harassment of our Conductor members. Incidents that were reported included the covert monitoring of Conductors, the misuse of the disciplinary procedure and LOROL were preventing our members from wearing RMT badges, ties and lanyards, whereas ASLEF members were allowed to wear their union’s regalia.

The General Grades Commitee said "“We note the report from our Regional Organiser and that the issues have been addressed."
