I would like to encourage all branches and activists to attend this year’s commemoration of the Burston Strike School. As in previous years RMT wants to have as large a presence as possible at this important event in the trade union calendar.

We will commemorate the longest strike in history, and celebrate the people who continue to fight for trade union rights, working class education, democracy in the countryside, and international solidarity.

“In response to LUL’s statement given on Thursday 5 July at 16:00 at ACAS, RMT is not arguing about the use of ICSAs working on stations alongside established staff. We are, however, totally opposed to ICSAs being counted towards minimum numbers for keeping a station open or for evacuation purposes.

On 2 April 2008, Gerry Duffy, LUL’s Director of Employee Relations, signed an agreement with RMT and TSSA which clearly states that the minimum staffing level for each station is:

I am writing to remind you about this year’s Tolpuddle Martyrs’ Festival and Durham Miners’ Gala taking place in a few weeks time.

The date of this year’s Tolpuddle Martyrs’ Festival is the weekend of 13-15 July. This is an excellent and very popular event commemorating some of the pioneers of trade unionism. The procession and rally will take place on the Sunday 15 July.

RMT Olympic Dispute - First Great Western

I write to inform you that First Great Western has totally refused to discuss or agree at Company Council level, the working arrangements for our members during the Olympic and Paralympic periods. Therefore, the matter has been subject to recent consideration by the General Grades Committee and the following decision has been taken:

I have now received a formal offer from c2c in respect to working during the London Olympics. The offer is as follows:

  • Retail Grades (at non event locations) and Cleaners who will have no changes to their usual terms and conditions during the period of the Olympic and Paralympic Games have been offered £250 Gross (pro rata for part time) as a special Olympic payment. This payment is dependent upon attendance at work during the periods of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

I have received reports that agency workers employed by Trainpeople.co.uk engaged on Grand Central Railways and London Underground’s Bakerloo Line contracts have not been paid for the second month running and have been excluded from the Agency Worker Regulations by Trainpeople.co.uk, who are using the Swedish derogation contract model to employ our members.

London Underground Service Control Members To Take 72 Hour Strike Action

The strike is now off, and the dispute settled, following successful negotiations

I write to advise branches that the recent ‘Yes’ vote in the above ballot has now been considered by the General Grades Committee and has made the following decision:-

“In accordance with the wishes of our service control representatives and members, we instruct members to take industrial action as follows:

  • not to book on for any duties starting after 19:00 on Sunday 1st July 2012, returning to duties starting after 19:00 on Wednesday 4th July 2012
