Jubilee South branch supports driver member facing unnecesary disciplinary action

RMT Jubilee South branch has unanimously voted in support of a motion that highlights the branch support for a Tube driver who is facing an unnecessary disciplinary process.  Branch members felt that the matter had been dealt with badly and that, as the motion states 'should [the driver] receive any penalty at disciplinary we will consider what further action we will take to defend and support this driver.'

The motion also highlights that drivers who request a pilot when required would be fully supported by the branch.  To support this message posters have been produced by the branch regarding the use of a pilot and are on display in notice cases across the line.

The motion

Jubilee South branch is very concerned to learn that a member is facing a gross misconduct CDI for a SPAD which we believe should clearly be dealt with as a training issue.

The driver faced an investigation which included three meetings held over several weeks. At one point the investigation appeared to be concluded only for management to change course and decide to pursue a misconduct charge.

This is in spite of a number of very similar comparable cases which were rightly dealt with as training issues and resolved in a short space of time.
Jubilee South branch offers our full support to the driver facing a CDI. Should he receive any penalty at disciplinary we will consider what further action we will take to defend and support this driver.

Further, we note that any driver who is unsure of a move should feel confident to ask for a pilot. The rule book states 'If you do not have a full working route knowledge of any section of the line over which your train is to work, you must request the assistance of a pilot. [The pilot must] have a full working knowledge of the section of line over which the train is to work, understand the meaning of all signals and be competent and fully licensed.'

This branch offers our full support to any driver who refuses a move they are unsure of without a pilot person.
