The coalition (Conservative/Liberal Democrat) government is attacking the basic rights and working conditions of workers, we must act now to prevent the loss of thousands more jobs. Whilst billions of pounds of public money has been spent to save the banks, the coalition government is reaping the cost of the economic crisis from ordinary working members of the public and the most economically disadvantaged including pensioners and Young people.

But this crisis was not created by us, the ordinary members of the public. It is the capitalist’s crisis and we should not bear the cost of it. The people who should pay for it are the bankers, financiers and upper classes.

We fully support the decision of RMT members to take strike action. It is a courageous act and one that is essential to prevent further job losses of train workers and underground staff. What’s more, is the impact of the cuts on quality of services? With fewer station staff, quality of services has been driven down considerably as indicated by RMT, including a less safe underground, less help for disabled, elderly and other vulnerable passengers, shorter ticket office opening hours and less frequent train maintenance and fewer drivers.

The public and commuters should not be subjected to poor services within public transport. Reform is needed but not the type that we so frequently hear from government and the Mayor of London. Real reform is needed to ensure secure jobs and good quality of services within the public transport sector.

We wholeheartedly support this action and are asking our members, workers activists, individuals and various Iranian solidarity campaigners to join us in supporting RMT’s strike action against these ferocious cuts.
