We note the report from our Regional Organiser, that Initial intends to increase the pay of cleaners on its London Underground contract in line with the London Living Wage, to £8.30 per hour, as it is contractually bound to do. The company has not yet advised us of its intended pay rise for supervisor, and has rejected every other element of our pay and conditions claim.
This will leave cleaning staff still among the most exploited and underpaid workers in London. We reaffirm RMT’s determination to challenge this, through improving organisation and formulating strategies to win improvements in pay, annual leave, sick pay, travel facilities, pensions, working hours and other conditions. We note that recent recruitment activities organised by our Finsbury Park branch and Regional Council have resulted in increased membership in this company. This recruitment is set to continue, and aims to result in formal recognition of RMT by Initial.
We instruct the General Secretary to place a progress report in front of us within one month.
