This emergency resolution from LU Engineering branch was passed unanimously at the February meeting of the Regional Council.

"This branch notes that now Metronet have been brought back into TfL that there is a concerted effort to crush the RMT and end its hard fought agreements. This has involved:

· Attempts to sack/ discipline our reps

· Refusal to talk about pay. We believe that this is based on a deliberate tactic by the bosses in the face falling RPI figures.

· The use of Private Covert Security Teams to monitor staff

Times are hard, companies are cutting back and by and large workers are paying the price of other people's mistakes or cynical moves by companies to maximise profits. One such example was Emcor Rail, which help to maintain station infrastructure on behalf of TubeLines.

This resolution, proposed by LU Engineering branch and seconded by TfL no.1 branch, was carried unanimously by the Regional Council in January 2009.

This region notes that successful recruitment needs planning and support from the whole region. We further note the success of other Charters for Cleaners/ Drivers etc and therefore call on the London Transport Region to endorse a similar charter for track workers:

RMT SHIFT workers responsible for fault-finding and maintaining the electrical supply to London’s Tube will begin their third 36-hour strike on Christmas night in a dispute over employer EDF Energy Powerlink’s refusal to concede a claim for pay-parity with permanent day workers.

Some 25 RMT 'shift testers', who work both night and day shifts, will not book on for turns that commence between 19:59 on Christmas night, December 25, and 07:59 on Saturday (December 27).

RMT Members on Metronet are rightly pleased to be returning to London Underground Ltd and public ownership after 5 years in the private sector. Though no one seemed to be listening at the time; the RMT said all along that “the PPP would end in tears”, and foresaw the huge waste of millions of pounds of tax payers money “disappearing” out to the Metronet shareholders!
