Submitted by rmtlondon on 15 February, 2013 - 03:19New Research by rail union RMT has found that French, Italian and Spanish lovers using high speed rail for a romantic city break will pay 245% less in rail fares than their UK counterparts.
Figures also show that whilst in the UK there has been a 20% increase in cost of using high speed rail (London to Paris) in the last three years, the cost of using of publicly owned European high speed rail is falling and by up to 37% in some instances.

RMT Appalled By Poor Pay Rise Offered To TfL Members; Following No Olympic Bonus
Submitted by Admin on 15 February, 2013 - 02:03We note the report from our representatives’ meeting, and are appalled that many of our members have received an RPI-only pay rise for this year while their workmates on both TfL and LUL have received RPI+0.5%. This adds insult to the injury of having received no Olympics payment.
We note that RMT rejected this pay deal but that other trade unions agreed it.
We instruct the General Secretary to:
- raise this issue with TfL as a matter of urgency, and escalate it through the machinery as far as is necessary
London Transport Museum Job Cuts Announcement Expected
Submitted by Admin on 15 February, 2013 - 01:59We note the report of the discussion at our representatives’ meeting, and that we may expect an announcement of cuts very soon.
We resolve to step up this union’s campaigning against these cuts, and instruct the General Secretary to ensure a higher-profile RMT presence at protest events.
We oppose any cuts in jobs, and instruct the General Secretary to raise with the employer that vacancies in permanent posts should be filled rather than covered with agency or temporary staff.
RMT Believes LULs Upgrade Programme Used As A Pretext To Attack Jobs
Submitted by Admin on 15 February, 2013 - 01:55Further to our decision Gww 8/1/13, we note the report from our representatives' meeting held on 25 January.
We note that London Underground's Upgrades programme has a significant impact on many of our members, including providing a pretext for LUL management to attack jobs and conditions. It is therefore essential that we mobilise all our relevant representatives to work together in unity to secure the best possible outcome for our members and for the future of London Underground.
RMT In Dispute With LUL Over Time Allowed For Drivers To Prepare Trains
Submitted by Admin on 15 February, 2013 - 01:46Further to our decision Gww 18/12/12, we note the report from our representatives' meeting held on 25 January 2013.
We agree that since the method of detrainment on the Metropolitan line has altered, there should therefore be a retiming exercise, and instruct the General Secretary to obtain a report on our representatives' progress in ensuring that this takes place.
