Trade Dispute Updates for EDF Energy, Stratford Depot - Alstom, Hammersmith and City Depot and Willesden Green Station Group Members

circular logoThis is an official RMT circular - IR/399/09 dated 13th of November 2009, from General Secretary Bob Crow.

RMT is currently in a number of dispute situations with various TfL employers that will necessitate ballots for industrial action. In addition to this there is of course the company wide dispute with LUL itself and I am carrying out the necessary checks for this ballot and hope to be in a position to report on progress next week.

Regretfully, this process has become even more complicated than before following a High Court ruling against us in respect of a recent ballot we conducted amongst our EDF Energy members.

LUL Rates of Pay and Conditions of Service Dispute

This is RMT's Official circular regarding LUL - IR/334/09 dated 10th of November 2009, from General Secretary Bob Crow.

You will be aware that, following consultation with our representatives, RMT previously decided not to accept LUL’s pay offer and to commence a re-ballot of its LUL Membership for industrial action. I can confirm that our stand prompted Management to arrange a meeting yesterday with all the unions at ACAS.

London Underground's Offer on Medical Redeployment

PLease find copied below, and attached, London Underground's proposal for medical redeployment (not a guaranteed alternative job) for drivers only (and only 25 drivers!). RMT does not accept this. The part at the end in BLOCK CAPITALS is a commitment obtained by RMT to further discussion within a week on extending this to other grades and lifting the maximum 25.

Protest: Bring Tube Cleaning Inhouse!

cleanersWith GBM's contract being transferred to Initial, who are to further sub-contract it to ICS, Tube cleaners are angry that they are being treated like parcels to be passed around. The only solution is to kick out the contractors and bring Tube cleaning back into an integrated, publicly-owned London Underground.

Join cleaners and their trade union, RMT, in protesting at the offices of LU Metronet, Templar House, 81-87 High Holborn (map here). Bring placards, banners and friends!

Resolution: Cleaners and Immigration Rights

This resolution, submitted by thee Regional Council Executive, was passed at the November 2009 meeting of the Regional Council.

In the light of resolutions passed at AGMs to support our members in the cleaning grades and oppose exploitation of migrant workers and in recognition of the facts that:

  1. Most of our cleaning members are from ethnic minorities.
  2. The various cleaning and other companies have used immigration rules to systematically exploit those who have organised in trade unions.

Finsbury Park Branch Monthly News - Special Issue on Industrial Relations Crisis on Finsbury Park Group

As a consequence of some appalling local management on the Finsbury Park Group, our branch has published a special edition of Monthly News to highlight what has been going on there. Click on the attachment to download a copy and read all about it.

Renationalise London Midland

RAIL UNION RMT today called on the government to take back the London Midland rail franchise from the parent Govia group after the company was hit with a remedial notice for persistent poor performance and failure to deliver an acceptable quality of service.

The RMT demand for renationalisation of London Midland comes just days before the East Coast Main Line is due to be taken back into public ownership and with the government coming under massive pressure to seize back the keys on National Express’s two other franchises – C2C and East Anglia.

Censored! Company Bans Freedom of Expression at Finsbury Park

In a pathetic display of petulance, management on the Finsbury Park Group have ripped down two important notices from RMT notice cases. Apparently acting on instructions from no less than the company’s Employee Relations Manager, Gerry Duffy, management tore down the October issue of Monthly News and banned its circulation to staff on the group on 23rd October. Then, on the 26th, they removed from notice cases a report by local Reps of a Level 1 meeting held with management that same day.
