Circular: vote YES YES in jobs, pension and agreements dispute

25th of May 2022

DON'T LET THEM TAKE YOUR JOBS, PENSIONS & AGREEMENTS

PAPERS OUT TODAY - VOTE 'YES' TO BOTH QUESTIONS & RETURN YOUR BALLOT PAPER

DEFEND JOBS, PENSIONS AND AGREEMENTS - LONDON UNDERGROUND

You will have seen a bulletin from Andy Lord today asking you not to vote in this re-ballot.

It is absolutely vital that we get a big turnout and a big Yes vote on both questions to send a clear message to LUL that this dispute is not resolved as LUL has repeatedly failed to provide us with the three following simple demands:-

  • That there will be no changes to your current pension arrangements
  • That there will be no reduction in the existing headcount at LUL
  • That there will be no changes to your existing terms and conditions of employment

Andy Lord and the whole of LUL should be giving their undivided attention to these three bullet points rather than spending time interfering in your democratic rights to cast your votes in this ballot. This is a cynical attempt from LUL to remove your most powerful defence and remove the strength of your Union's negotiating team. If we don't meet the ballot thresholds of a 50% turnout and 40% yes vote from all eligible votes, the Union cannot call any action at all. It doesn't even matter if there's any overwhelming yes vote. Every single vote counts.  You cannot simply rely on others to get the vote over the line so as soon as you get your ballot paper, we urge you to send it back to the scrutineer straight away with a “Yes” for strike action and “Yes” for action short of a strike.

LUL continues to refuse to give you or your Union any kind of security or reassurance for your future careers. Vote 'YES' to both questions to fight against increased fatigue, excessive duties and a decimated work/life balance. Remember the Tory Government and TfL funding mismanagement crisis caused this financial deficit in the first place and you are not responsible for fixing it.

Ballot papers will be posted out to you today, and the closing date of this ballot is First Post, Thursday 23rd June 2022. If any member does not receive their ballot paper please contact us by calling the freephone Helpline on 0800 376 3706, or by emailing info@rmt.org.uk

VOTE 'YES' FOR STRIKE ACTION AND 'YES' FOR INDUSTRIAL ACTION SHORT OF A STRIKE

I will keep you advised of all further developments.

Yours sincerely,

Michael Lynch
General Secretary
