JOB CUTS – LONDON UNDERGROUND

From RMT General Secretary Bob Crow:

I write to advise members of the latest situation in our dispute with London Underground over their planned job cuts. Many of you may have today seen the totally false reports made by the BBC that RMT had decided not to call strike action in January. Please be assured that this statement is totally false and your Executive continues to deliberate on the way forward. Nothing has been ruled in or ruled out at this stage.

The General Grades Committee has today met to discuss the dispute and the following decision has been taken: -

“That we note the correspondence from TSSA and instruct the General Secretary to seek an urgent meeting with the TSSA to discuss the London Underground job cuts dispute; that the Council of Executives member and Regional Organiser for London Transport region are included in this meeting; and that this matter is placed back in front of the GGC on Friday at the latest.

Further we are appalled at the BBC’s report this morning that RMT will not strike against London Underground job cuts in January. This report, attributed to “a highly placed RMT source”, is in straightforward contradiction to the decision of the GGC taken on 7th January 2011. We instruct the General Secretary to issue an immediate statement to the press and to our member clarifying our position.

As you will see from the above decision a meeting is being arranged between ourselves and TSSA to discuss the current situation and I shall keep members and branches advised of further developments and decisions."

Yours Sincerely

Bob Crow
General Secretary
