London Bridge Three ballot period

DISCIPLINARY – L. CORNELL, S. SOUISSI, D. SHARP – LONDON BRIDGE – LONDON UNDERGROUND (LUL/4/4)

Further to my previous Circular No. (IR/101/17, 3rd March 2017), the National Executive Committee has considered this matter and taken the decision to proceed with a ballot for strike action and action short of a strike amongst Station Grades members (CSA1, CSA2, CSS and CSM’s) at London Bridge and Waterloo. Ballot papers will be posted to members onThursday 30th March and the closing date for this ballot is Tuesday 18th April 2017.

This decision is as a result of the deplorable treatment of our station staff members: Lee Cornell has been dismissed and this decision was recently upheld at appeal, Saed Souissi has received a 52 week final warning and Dave Sharp has received a 52 week final warning. Senior RMT Reps agree this is the worst case of multiple miscarriages of justice by London Underground as these members were subject to a vicious assault by a violent fare-evading passenger but instead of being supported and commended by the Company, they have instead been wrongly punished. LUL widely publicises a zero tolerance approach to violence against members of staff but that promise has not been applied at all in this case. Furthermore the Company has failed in its duty of care to its staff and has disregarded its own Staff Assault Policy & Procedures.

I will keep Branches advised of all further developments.
