New Night Tube strike dates announced

Our Ref: LUL/2/3

23rd December 2021

TO ALL TRAIN OPERATORS AND INSTRUCTOR OPERATORS, CENTRAL, JUBILEE, NORTHERN, PICCADILLY & VICTORIA LINES AT LONDON UNDERGROUND

RMT CALLS FURTHER STRIKE ACTION ON CENTRAL & VICTORIA LINES NIGHT TUBE

Dear Colleague

IMPOSITION OF NIGHT TUBE DUTIES, TRAIN OPERATORS – LONDON UNDERGROUND

Further to my previous letter with regards to the above dispute, I would like to congratulate you and your colleagues for standing firm during the days of industrial action. Our Train Operating members have solidly supported the strike action taken to date in their fight against the company’s imposition of Night Tube duties. I would also like to thank you all for returning an overwhelming result and providing a mandate to take further action.

LUL has continued to ignore our 2016 agreement which states ‘No existing Train Operators will therefore need to work Night Tube shifts unless they choose to do so. No train operator at a night tube depot will work more weekends (defined as Saturday and Sunday rostered together) than today due to night tube’. This was an agreement made in good faith and which must be honoured.

A meeting of our Train Grades Committee took place on 20th December 2021 where the recommendation of your representatives was for all Train Operators and Instructor Operators on the Central and Victoria Lines not to book on for any shifts from 20:30 hours on any Friday until 04:29 the next day and not to book on for any shifts commencing from 20:30 on any Saturday until 04:29 the next day.

Your union’s National Executive Committee has again considered the matter and has endorsed the recommendation of our Train Grades Committee.

All Train Operators and Instructor Operators on the Central and Victoria lines are instructed not to book on for any shifts as set out in this appendix for clarity.

Your NEC has also instructed that a further dispute resolution meeting is sought with LUL and to inform them that unless they are prepared to discuss a solution to this dispute based on our 2016 agreement and making clear that no Train Operator will be compelled to work Night Tube duties then your union will name further strike dates for members on all Night Tube lines

I ask you all to show your support and stand shoulder to shoulder during the days of industrial action. It is only fair and reasonable that the company honour the 2016 they entered with us in good faith and for a resolution to be sought on that basis. It is wholly unacceptable for them to treat our members with contempt and impose duties that are completely contrary to both the spirit and letter of our agreement.

I trust this keeps you fully advised on the matter and I will, of course, update you on any further developments.

UNITY IS STRENGTH

SUPPORT THE INDUSTRIAL ACTION

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch

General Secretary
