What is a National Executive Committee decision?

This article is an 'executive decision' which has been written by the RMT National Executive Committee. The National Executive is the union's governing body in between AGMs. Its decisions set out what the union will do on a particular issue.

These decisions can often be brief, and may be one of several passed over a period of time. To get a better understanding or find out more information about what the RMT is doing, speak to your rep or attend your branch or Regional Council meeting.

RMT Firmly Opposes Suspension Of Transfers Into TfL Pension Fund

We welcome the resolution from our London Transport Regional Council, and share its firm opposition to the TfL Pension Fund suspending transfers into the fund. This decision threatens the stability of the Fund and removes important rights from some of our members.

We also agree that ‘suspending’ a rule for six years is an undemocratic manoeuvre to avoid the process of changing the rules.

Therefore, in accordance with the resolution, we instruct the General Secretary to arrange a meeting with all RMT Pension Councillors and the chair and secretary (or their nominated deputy) of all branches in the London Transport region plus any branches in other regions which might have members in the fund, together with the relevant officers and GGC members.

This meeting should discuss a campaign to restore transfers into the TfL including organising for a Special General Meeting of TfL Pension Fund members, and a report of it is to be placed in front of us.

Regional Councils and branches to be advised.
