What is a National Executive Committee decision?

This article is an 'executive decision' which has been written by the RMT National Executive Committee. The National Executive is the union's governing body in between AGMs. Its decisions set out what the union will do on a particular issue.

These decisions can often be brief, and may be one of several passed over a period of time. To get a better understanding or find out more information about what the RMT is doing, speak to your rep or attend your branch or Regional Council meeting.

RMT to prepare ballot for 'bullied and victimised' activist brother Hart

We note the report of the Lead Officer and we also note the GGC decision of the 28/05/15 that we would prepare a ballot for strike action if Bro Hart receives a disciplinary warning for carrying out trade union activities.

Bro Hart has been bullied and victimised since this date and now faces dismissal on trumped up charges that are related to his activities based on standing firm in defence of agreed and legitimate trade union activities.

We therefore instruct the General Secretary to prepare an all members ballot matrix. We also instruct the General Secretary to organise a reps meeting and to produce the necessary propaganda material in conjunction with the LTRC. If the charges are not dropped we will ballot for strike action and action short of strike action.

Relevant Branch and London Transport Regional Council to be informed.
