Training workshop: local negotiating meetings

Venue: Exmouth Arms, Star Cross Street, Euston

If you are a local rep, find out how to make the most of your regular local ("level one") meetings with management - finding out members' issues, arguing the case with your manager, what to do if you disagree, feeding back to members, using your role to build the union and its strength in the workplace. This training workshop, led by Malcolm Taylor, Staff-Side Secretary of London Underground's Stations & Revenue Council, is a must for all local representatives.

London Underground pay dispute - Back into action!

bloke in chicken suit with placardA well-attended meeting of London Undergroud RMT reps today voted unanimously to reject the company's miserly pay offer of 1.5% this year and RPI+0.5% next year. The meeting also voted by a majority that the union should seek the agreement of members for further action, through either a new industrial action ballot or a referendum on the offer with a recommendation to reject it.

RSSI use RSS or 'Really Simple Syndication' to keep an eye on certain areas of this site - be it news about London Underground disputes, or blog entries from my rep. However, many people don't know what it is or how to use it - so I thought it may be of interest or use to some of you for me to have a go at explaining it here.

Victoria Line Train Operators' Rostering Dispute Resolved

Statement from General Secretary Bob Crow:

I am pleased to report that the above dispute was resolved and the intended industrial action has since all been suspended.

LUL have confirmed that the cover required for the “fifth rounder” – the fifth return journey on the Victoria Line – will be treated equally with other cover. In the event that the management are unable to cover the fifth rounder, details will be supplied to RMT representatives. Further meetings on new rosters will take place in January and June next year with the threat of imposition lifted.

The Fines Pool and VOSA Penalties

Following the recent introduction of Fixed Penalty Notices and Financial Deposit Notices issued by VOSA, there was a meeting of the Fines Pool administrators in which this issue was discussed.

It was agreed that if any case arises as a result of these penalties, and which would be outside of the normal remit of Fines Pool payments (fines committed under the Road Traffic Act) each case would be looked at individually and a decision made whether to pay the fine.

Letter to the Morning Star: Fighting for Members?!

It's good to see various trade union leaders saying they will be fighting for their members whoever is running the country, but perhaps they should start now. Most of the recent disputes in the oil refineries, occupations at Visteon etc were started by rank and file with the leaderships being forced to support the workers.

Big adverts in the Morning Star stating how many members you have and pleading for the government not to cut public services and please be progressive do nothing. Fighting back does.
