Dear RMT Member,
4-DAY WORKING WEEK & TRAINS FUNCTIONAL COUNCIL REPRESENTATION - LONDON UNDERGROUND
RMT previously agreed to LUL's request for a period of 7-10 weeks to finalise its proposed new framework agreement for working conditions that would apply to compressed working. Regrettably, the extended period has not resulted in any resolution of our concerns in this dispute.
We still have no indication from LUL, yet alone assurances, regarding the impact of the compressed working week on those who opt out. Discussions on a framework for compressed working have not considered any improvements in the terms at all. LUL continues to refuse any improvement in the level of representation for RMT train crew members at either local or functional level.
This matter has been discussed amongst your RMT Traincrew Reps and the National Executive Committee has taken the decision to demand the following specific assurances from LUL:
- That no changes to any terms or conditions will be imposed on any driver unless they opt in to compressed 4-day working.
- There will be no detriment to any driver who does not opt in. Drivers can continue to work on their current rostered terms at their current depot.
- Genuine negotiations will take place to seek to improve the terms of the compressed 4 day week.
- There will be no reduction in trains headcount.
- LU will immediately recognise RMT Reps in equal numbers to the other recognised union at L1 and L2 in the train crew function.
- Recruitment will continue at a level to guarantee the long-term viability of all current roster arrangements.
- All T/Ops may opt in or out of compressed working at any time, subject to reasonable notice.
I have given a deadline of Thursday 3rd September for LUL to respond to the above. A further Reps meeting is scheduled for Friday 4th September and I will of course keep you advised of all further developments.
Yours sincerely,
Eddie Dempsey
General Secretary
