MAYOR ANNOUNCEMENT - MAJOR COVID INCIDENT:

As we all know yesterday the Mayor announced a Major Incident in London re the Surge in hospital use in the current 3rd national lockdown RMT feels that this has an immediate impact on the staff and their families. It is clear that the death rate is tragically very high and this is all set to continue

The message is clear "Stay at home" "Work from home" and yet LUL continues to act in another way for thousands our our members in operational and engineering grades

RMT Regional Organiser John Leach updates members on the funding agreement reached between London mayor Sadiq Khan and thr government following s meeting he attended this morning with the assistant mayor and TfL commissioner.

Update

This morning myself and NEC rep Jared Wood attended a summit meeting with the Managing Director of LUL and others to discuss the above

At the time of writing this update no final deal had been done with government and TFL and management told us that it is possible a deal may not be completed by the 17th October deadline. However, it is management’s view that a section 114 notice would not be required if there was a reasonable prospect of securing a deal by next week.

RMT Regional Organiser John Leach has written to London Underground Managing Director Andy Lord to seek an 'absolute guarantee' that the jobs of members at TfL / LUL will not be affected by any emergency budget settlement reached with the government.

Dear RMT members (London Transport Region)

 As you will see below in our press release, the RMT has concerns re next Monday 11th May being the start of government led mobilisation across Britain’s railways.

Accordingly I immediately wrote to LUL, the Managing Director, specifically in relation to all TfL. The MD confirmed explicitly that this is not the case for TfL and their services, that their planning date (which is not fixed 100%) is still the 18th of May.

Dear RMT members in Train grades,

Following the universal rejection of Covid 19 Emergency duty schedules and LUL's threat to impose them next Sunday,we met at Director level yesterday and informed them that these schedules were fundamentally misconceived.

The proposed timetabled service was far too intense for purpose and the schedules were fundamentally unsafe and inappropriate.

Dear RMT members

Following on from my message yesterday, at the bottom of this message, I have attended both the LUL Company council and Tfl Company council this afternoon.

Both employers have told us that to assist with catastrophic loss of finances Tfl will make use of the Governments "Job Retention scheme"  which provides up Financial support to employers hit by the Coronavirus crisis.
