Ballot begins over unreasonable sacking of train driver Storey

DISMISSAL, D. STOREY, TRAIN OPERATOR, WEST RUISLIP – LONDON UNDERGROUND (LUL/4/1)

Further to my previous Circular (IR/317/16, 26th October 2016), the Reps meeting took place on Monday 31st October and the National Executive Committee has taken the decision to declare a dispute with LUL over this matter and to ballot members for strike action and action short of a strike.

Brother Storey was responsible for a SPAD at White City Traincrew Depot and due to a lack of familiarisation at this particular depot his actions resulted in him aggravating the SPAD. However, at his CDI many mitigations against his dismissal were ignored or wrongly discounted and the circumstances of the incident were never properly considered. It is the view of this Union that the decision to dismiss Brother Storey is far in excess of anything which could be considered reasonable and his colleagues are rightly appalled by the actions taken against him by LUL.

The ballot papers will be posted to all Train Operator and Instructor Operator members at West Ruislip and White City Traincrew Depots on Friday 25th November and the closing date for this ballot is Tuesday 13th December 2016. I will keep you advised of all further developments.
