Ballot calling for reinstatement of rep Gary Carney ongoing

DISMISSAL, GARY CARNEY, TRAIN OPERATOR - LONDON UNDERGROUND (LUL/4/1)

I write further to my previous Circular (IR/088/21, 25th February 2021), concerning the above matter. Unfortunately, the Appeal against Gary Carney's dismissal was unsuccessful and London Underground have upheld their previous decision of dismissal, despite the overwhelming evidence presented at the hearing. This means the work to ensure that Brother Carney is reinstated continues and I urge all those members involved in the dispute to make their voice heard that they will not stand for the unjustified dismissal of one of their reps.

Your National Executive Committee has commended the determination of our members, reps, and officers in building support for Brother Carney's reinstatement through the ballot that is being conducted of Central Line Traincrew Depots.

Correspondence from the company was received regarding the campaigning activity that is taking place and expressing concern over the adherence to Covid-19 guidelines. The current Covid-19 guidelines have been adhered to throughout the campaign and this has been stated to the company. Nevertheless, reps are reminded of the importance of adhering to all Covid-19 guidelines in place when engaged in any trade union duties or activities.

A meeting of all our LUL train operating reps will be convened to discuss how the campaign for Gary's reinstatement can be advanced. Details of the meeting will be distributed in due course.

The ballot opened on Monday 15th March 2021 and will close on Tuesday 13th April 2021. Any member not having received a ballot paper by today (31st March 2021) is asked to email info@rmt.org.uk. Alternatively, members can call the RMT freephone helpline on 0800 376 3706 to request a replacement.

I will keep branches informed of all further developments.

Yours sincerely,

Mick Cash
General Secretary
