The recent TfL financial review has made it clear to all London Underground members that we are all going to have to fight hard for our jobs, terms and conditions, pensions and benefits. The government, the Mayor’s office and London Underground management are determined that the financial burden of the COVID 19 crisis will fall on London’s workers in general and on London Underground staff in particular.

RMT condemns LU plans to ditch cash ticket sales

LONDON UNDERGROUND UNION RMT today condemned LUL plans to completely eliminate the option of using cash to purchase tickets.

The plans are an assault on the thousands of customers who only use cash, often because their financial situation means they have no access to a bank account or a contactless payment method. It will also inevitably lead to confrontations on the gateline with front line staff and revenue control inspectors.

Crucially, it will cost the company significant amounts of money, at a time where every pound is precious with lower numbers travelling.

RMT demands action from LUL over rising levels of violent assaults

TUBE UNION RMT has demanded action from tube bosses over rising levels of violent assaults after another horrific incident at Warren Street Station on Friday ‎‎afternoon.  

The incident, which included severe levels  of physical violence and the suspect forcing his way into the control room and continuing his assault, is the latest in a line of similar violent acts against tube workers . 

Is social distancing guidance about to change?

Today, in a presentation to the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) TfL Director of Public Transport Service Planning,

Geof Hobbs stated that with full social distancing measures of 2 metres, LUL would only be able to run at 13% of normal capacity. He hinted strongly that a reduction would ease the problem. Chief Operating Ofcer of MTA New York, Mario Peloquin also made similar
comments. With both New York and London hinting that a reduction in distance is required, we believe P.H.E is likely to change its guidance.

Station Functional Council News: local arrangements to revise staff deployment

RMT pressure, at both workplace and Functional level, has resulted in an agreement that all areas must implement local arrangements to revise staff deployment and shift allocation on the basis of emergency BNSs and the reduced service.
