Upfront Newsletter: August 2015

Members of all unions once again showed the power of united action with another magnificent display of strength during the last strike. The all-grades overtime ban is hitting LUL hard and we have seen proof of this on their central target board. It has more red crosses than a game of Celebrity Squares with actual lost customer hours almost double the target. Lost hours caused through the Fleet overtime ban are 15 times higher than the target!

Why are we taking action?

“We’ve just had the most effective strike on the underground in 15 years, we can hardly follow that by accepting a worse offer than the one we went on strike over”. These were the wise words of one of the delegates to the reps’ meeting held at Unity House on Monday. The reps’ meeting followed a session at ACAS on Friday July 31st where LUL proposed a final, final offer for wages and Night Tube (NT).

New Industrial Action Hits Tube Services Today

New wave of tube industrial action already hitting services this morning as drivers threatened with being sent home for refusing to drive unsafe trains.

Tube services are already being hit as a new phase of industrial action kicks in this morning with staff refusing to take out trains that have not been prepped in the previous 24 hours and also refusing to train up staff who have been shunted around the network, outside of their normal jobs and locations, to try and plug gaps created by the ongoing overtime ban.

M Door Dispute: Management Will Not Impose New Rule

REAR M DOOR ALARM ACTIVATED ON JUBILEE LINE

LUL recently implemented a change to the Rule for dealing with a rear M door alarm activation on the Jubilee line. Previous to this change a Train Operator was asked to contact the Controller and then go back to investigate the activation. The Rule change is that the Train Operator would now contact the Controller, get authority to proceed in Restricted Manual and continue to next station.

M Door Dispute Discussions Continue

Comrades

We met with management to discuss the Jubilee Line M Door issue, and a host of other issues at a recent Tier 2A meeting.

The upshot is, we are still no nearer a resolution on this issue. We will need another meeting to discuss the issue further, but in the meantime, management have a agreed not to ask any driver to carry on to the next station to check should they receive an M Door activated alarm. Drivers will be allowed to go back and check, even between stations.
